Experience Precedes Authority

On giftedness, embodiment, and the limits of second-hand knowledge

Not an ad. I bought this magazine because Ron wrote an article in it. I don’t know Ron personally, but I know his work from LinkedIn and Substack. And what he writes has a nice edge to it. In a positive way. It always makes me happy haha. His story in this magazine does not disappoint. 😂🔥

A few weeks ago I shared that an article of mine was published in Hoogbegaafd & Zo.

Since then, I have received multiple thoughtful and personal responses. The editorial team also informed me that they received a notable amount of positive feedback. That matters to me. Not as validation of being right, but as a signal that what is often left unspoken is, in fact, being recognized.

At the same time, something else stands out.

The field of giftedness is increasingly absorbed by a coaching industry that speaks about experience, but rarely embodies it.

There is a fundamental difference between understanding something and being it.

Between reading about it and having lived it.

If it is not your experience, it is not your truth. It is someone else’s formulation. It may be intellectually correct, but it carries no weight. No tension. No transformation.

Giftedness is not a format. Not a step-by-step model. Not a revenue stream. It is a way of perceiving that structurally alters how you relate to the world. Those who have not lived that shift can describe it — but they cannot carry it.

Perhaps that explains why some conversations truly land.

And others merely sound convincing.
