Diving into this journey knowingly at a younger age, I can say it's challenging — perhaps especially so because the early years are so centered around school, which haven't really felt as a place of self-discovery to me. School may prepare you in some ways, but the real test comes in facing a world that doesn't make space for who you are, or are becoming. I feel fortunate to have had my family close by — not only when I needed them but also when I didn't, which mattered perhaps even more so.
